WYSIWYG Editors for Content Management Systems

Directory of Open Source Editors        Proprietary Editors
A wide variety of WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") editors are available for use by CMS developers. Most hosted CM services have them, and some are selling their editor separately. We list here only those that are "through-the-web" browser-based editors. Desktop authoring tools like Macromedia Dreamweaver and HomeSite, jEdit, Altova XMLSpy, BlastRadius XMetaL, etc. will be covered in another section.

Most of the available editor widgets are for HTML editing. Some are XHTML compliant, and some are XML editors.

Paul Browning prepared a new JISC Report on Through The Web (TTW) authoring tools in December 2003.
